Paper Dreams
A paper ladybug
was folded from a farmer’s dream.
The farmer dreamt that aphids
would run from scarecrows with six legs.
The inspired farmer placed
the paper ladybug in the middle of an orchard.
Suddenly, clouds covered the moon
and rain began to blot his flannel shirt’s fibers
with wet black spots.
The farmer turned into a paper puppet
folded from an aphid’s dream;
a good dream for the innocent folivore,
that everything scary
would dissolve in the rain.
