Elements

Light and dark,
hints of meaning
   at the edges.

Patch of light,
patch of dark,
no color,
no form or movement,
shaping each other
   where they meet.

The border line is what I see,
not yet complete,
or crisp or real,
or closely bound,
its meaning sheltered
from my gaze and my design,
the patches, light and dark,
on either side,
and when I think
   the clue is found,
they realign.

I blink,
again they change…
