Maybe When

Maybe when we’ve killed them all—

the wild and working honeybees—

we can give good humans jobs

pollinating almond trees.

Maybe when the roads all drown

beneath the warming ocean tide,

humans finned like fish can guide

a yacht that sails from town to town.

Maybe when koalas flee

from fires fueled by fossil greed,

humans can hang safe pouches in trees

to protect all families.

Maybe when mankind is dust,

the solar and wind industries

can fill new jobs in energy

with evolved roaches after us.
