Ken Baker

The Egotist

the smarts of a housefly.
pawned his kindness years ago.
considers himself a prince,
a lofty genius.
yet probably thinks the Earth is flat.
blame it on his father, some say.

when the poor go hungry,
he plays golf, lunches with friends.
when ethnic groups rattle,
he tweets freaky jokes.
when eloquence and humility must lead,
he bows out.

his words grasp wind,
bumble, hide secrets,
rise with lies.
he's the fever of lean thinking America.

but before long he'll be the subject
of myth and tales.
like old gangsters,
make good film.
a tragic bozo,
with a parade of ignorant characters
who followed close behind.
